The Kanye instance at the VMAs raises a lot of great discussion topics. As much as I believe Taylor Swift is talented, it IS very odd for a country artist to receive an MTV moonman. Has that ever happened? Isn’t that what CMT is for? Granted she is “pop country”, but still… The bigger questions for me involve why there is even an event for music video awards seeing as no one ever shows videos anymore? I miss the days when MTV was truly music television and played music videos 90% of the time. I also think the whole awards concept in the arts is pretty pointless. Why can’t they just have a celebration event each year with a funny host, amazing live acts, and celebrate their art together without awards? I think it would still get viewers.

It all ended with The Real World. See ya later MTV we all know and love. Hello reality tv. But I do think Taylor Swift must have done something right to win. She is very talented and fits into the same genre of POP WE HEAR ON THE RADIO. Music lines blur especially when they are young and pretty.

yeah besides being a totally irrelevant award show…last time I checked it was called the “MTV Video Music Awards” not the “MTV POP/Hip Hop Video Music Awards” Taylor Swift puts out records that kinda cross these genre lines. For an artist that gets played on Star 94 and Q100 just like any other artist supports that. She usually records two versions of her singles one that fits a more country radio audience and one that has more of a pop sound. For that reason alone I see no issue with her winning a moonman. But you make a good point that these shows really make no sense anyway.
